Stone Marine Services Managing Director, Steven Fyfe reaches 20-year milestone with the company.
In what has been a remarkable journey, we go back to the start.
Steven started out with Stone Marine Services, which was known to many as Stone Manganese Marine Services on April 17th 2000, some 20 years ago. Previous to Steven joining Stone Marine Services he worked for Ulstein which has gone through its own transition, formally recognised as Vickers, Rolls-Royce and now Kongsberg. Steven has enjoyed a successful career reaching some key milestones along the way. During his early years with Ulstein, Steven worked as an assembly technician and NDT inspector before progressing into field service work and making the move to Stone Marine Services.
On joining Stone Marine, Steven started as a workshop service technician where he quickly progressed into field service work, carrying out repairs as a service engineer to clients around the world. In 2003, Steven was chosen to support the Stone Marine service management team in a deputy role where his knowledge and drive would see him quickly rewarded with another promotion in the same calendar year to Service Manager.
The next 6 years would see a sustained period of growth for Stone Marine with the opening of two service centres in West Africa, one in Cape Town and other in Namibia which have grown steadily and now employ over 30 staff. Now as General Manager, Steven’s influence to open facilities in these key locations has paid dividends over the last decade with new customers and relationships year on year.
In 2009, Steven was appointed as Operations Director where he used his contacts and network to expand the company’s portfolio with existing relationships formalised into agency agreements with key principles, most of which exist to this day.
In 2018, he was appointed to Managing Director following the retirement of David Borthwick who had held the position since 2000. In Steven’s words:
“It’s been an incredible journey, being able to see what the company has achieved over two decades has been fantastic, none of this would have been possible without the trust and support of my family, work colleagues, Langham Industries and of course my friend and mentor David Borthwick”.
As pictured below, Steven celebrated his 20 year anniversary with his family in the comfort of his home during the Covid-19 lockdown. Regardless of our current situation, we can still celebrate special occasions.
