Meet Ewan our Accounts Graduate

As part of our continued growth and willingness to develop talent, we caught up with another new graduate, who joins our accounts team.

Firstly, congratulations on your graduation from university and securing the position here at Stone Marine. Although you’ve not been here long, how has the transition between coming from university into the working world been?

A: Yes, thanks, it’s nice to be here. The transition going from university to the working world has been good (so far). One issue, I do have to get up a lot earlier than I did when I was at university. Other than that, I’ve has no problems with the changes. As with most graduates, it was hard to find a job initially after graduating, but now I’ve got one; it certainly feels good.

So now you’ve had a chance to settle in, how have you found things so far?

A: Things have been good and pretty fast-paced, but I feel as though I have settled in well and get along with everyone. The people around me have been accommodating and are always willing to help, regardless of the question. Not only do they help, but they also help me understand why things are done and not just how to do it. So yes, it’s been a great learning experience, and I’m very thankful for that.

And what does a typical day at work look like for Ewan?

A: So, a typical day would involve a variety of roles ranging from invoice processing to raising them as well. I also like to ask not only the accounts team questions but also the service managers and engineers about certain things in order to learn more about the company and how things are done. the industry is all new to me and I find it all fascinating.

Step away from the excel sheets and figures; tell us a fun fact about you that people may not know?

A: Oh ok, fun fact. I’ve met the queen before. Is that a fun fact? I’ve also met the dark destroyer from the TV programme the chase.

Yes, both of those would be regarded as a ‘fun fact’. But, moving on, these strange times have made life a little different. What are your favourite things to do outside of the office on weekends?

A: So at the weekends, I play football for a local amateur team. I also like watching football, support Partick Thistle football club (don’t judge). Apart from playing football I enjoy going out with my friends and, in normal circumstances, we would usually go to the pub or cinema. Thankfully, these activities are now possible, so it’s been a nice feeling getting out and about again.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a Stone Marine interview without the bucket list question. There are 3 things left on your bucket list to complete; what are they?

  • I would love to see a shark in person
  • Go to a West Ham Football Club match in the Premier League
  • I’d like to go to a zoo

Ewan, thanks for your time. Let’s hope you get to tick some of those activities off your bucket list soon.
