Field Service Engineer
Following a series of new fleet repair agreements, Stone Marine Services is recruiting experienced Field Service Engineers with extensive engineering and mechanical skills and a strong customer focus.
The successful candidate must have sufficient technical and supervisory expertise to work independently, proficiently and professionally.
This role is suited to engineers with propulsion experience gained at an OEM, or accomplished engineers with at least 7 years of experience working with rotating equipment, oil lubrication systems, gearsets, bearings and couplings.
You will repair and service Azimuth Propulsion Systems, Tail Shafts, Tunnel Thrusters and Pump/Water Jet equipment on vessels throughout the UK and internationally.
This is precision engineering. You will diagnose, dismantle, repair and reassemble critical assets to exacting standards. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a solid and stable engineering career with the required technical background and experience. The units we work on range from approximately 8 tonnes to 90 tonnes in size.

Responsibilities
- Repair and service Azimuth Propulsion Systems, Tail Shafts, Tunnel Thrusters and Pump/Water Jet equipment.
- Diagnose, dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble critical marine propulsion equipment to exacting engineering standards.
- Work from mechanical drawings and engineering data to identify faults and coordinate repair requirements.
- Manage and oversee machining requirements while working in the field where necessary.
- Produce detailed technical reports covering work completed and provide recommendations to restore equipment to optimum operating efficiency.
- Interact professionally with vessel management and operations teams to ensure work is completed on schedule and to the required standard.
- Complete service reports and timesheets promptly and accurately.
- Maintain regular communication with Service Managers and support staff throughout each assignment.
- Adapt to changing working environments, facilities and conditions while maintaining consistently high repair standards.
- Maintain high standards of quality, health and safety and environmental practices at all times.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, or OEM marine propulsion training.
- Experience reading and working from mechanical drawings is essential.
- Strong experience with rotating equipment, oil lubrication systems, gearsets, bearings and couplings.
- Marine propulsion or OEM propulsion experience is highly desirable.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for technically demanding repairs.
- A resourceful and practical approach to working in environments where facilities and conditions vary between countries.
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
- Willing and able to deploy at short notice throughout the UK and internationally.
- Willingness to work away from home for extended periods when required.
- Ability to travel globally without restrictions that would prevent entry into countries required for assignments.
