There was no change this month for our service team as we continue to serve the needs of our global customer base. Our service capabilities present no boundaries as we carried out seal bonding and bow thruster overhauls around the UK, Europe and beyond. In other news, we caught up with our new graduate, Ewan, who joined SMS Inverkeithing.
Stern Tube Seal Replacement
One of our seals’ engineers was in Navantia shipyard earlier this month to replace both the Port and Stbd stern tube seals. In partnership with, Lagersmit we carried out a full repair, including cleaning, machining the liner and refitting the seal boxes. Together, we are committed to providing the best technical assistance and strive to surpass our customers’ expectations.
Meet our new Accounts Graduate
As part of our continued growth and willingness to develop talent at SMS, we caught up with another new graduate, who joined our team in Inverkeithing. From meeting the queen to sharing his desire to swim with sharks, we asked our latest recruit some questions, and he gave us an insight into his first few months at SMS.

Thruster Overhaul in Setubal
Our engineer was called out to attend this container ship in Portugal to overhaul the tunnel thruster. After an inspection, the unit was transported to the workshop to undergo a full overhaul which consisted of fitting a new seal box and bearings to the propeller shaft. Then, we shipped the unit back to the vessel and refitted the new seal blades before carrying out all the final checks.
Seal Bonding at Damen Shipyard
To conclude our service for the month, we had another seals attendance. This time our engineer was at Damen’s Shipyard in Harlingen, Netherlands. The job scope required us to carry out bonding to this cargo vessel on both the FWD and AFT seals. Again, the job was carried out with minimum fuss and concluded within the scheduled docking time.
