It’s been another month of relentless service and repairs across Europe and Africa. As we see further easing of travel restrictions, this represents another milestone towards getting back to some normality. In Africa, Morne was promoted to General Manager .
Thruster Overhauls
The first stop this month for our service team was in Bremerhaven, Germany. The job on this occasion required two engineers to carry out a complete overhaul of the bow and stern thrusters. The vessel was located at Bredo dry dock, where we de-assembled the Nakashima units at the workshop and re-built them within the scheduled docking time, ensuring no delay for the shipowner.
Morne Promoted to GM
In other news, we were pleased to announce the promotion of Morne Hugo from the senior service manager to general manager of SMS Africa. Morne joined SMS back in February 2013 as a service engineer, and during his time at the company, he has contributed significantly to the development of our presence in Africa.

Routine Propeller Repair
Staying in Africa, our team of skilled propeller technicians were hard at it to meet the tight schedules of our customers in the region. One of these jobs was polishing and repairing this four bladed propeller. We have the capabilities and experience to repair and service all propeller types from our West African service centres.
Tunnel Thruster Seal Replacement
Next up for the team was a tunnel thruster seal replacement in Varna, Bulgaria. The job on this occasion required our engineer to replace the input and output shaft seals, including new liners. We fitted new bio-oil seals and concluded by flushing and refilling with new oil.
