Monthly Roundup – March

Thruster getting repaired

This month, our team has been stretched to cope with the service demands, and we went to extreme lengths to satisfy our customers’ needs. In response to the demand, we have several roles available from field service engineers to project engineers. We also got to meet our new addition to the service support team, Cristina.

Sunshine in March

Our multi-skilled engineer was situated in Qatar’s sunshine at the beginning of the month, carrying out an overhaul of a Kawasaki bow thruster, propeller shaft and hub. We removed the unit and transported it to the workshop, where it was overhauled. After a quick turnaround, the unit was reinstalled and successfully tested in dock.

Cape Town Overhaul and Propeller Repair

In Africa this month our team were situated nearby our facility in Cape Town, to carry out a thruster overhaul and inspect two REINTJES gearboxes. Our locally based engineers were also asked to repair and polish the propeller blades.

Controls Fault Finding

In contrast to our previous service attendance, our controls engineer was in the wind and rain as he attended a service vessel in the North of Scotland.

On behalf of our partner Damen Marine Components, one of our technicians was tasked with repairing a Van Der Velden steering gear unit. After identifying an indication fault with the rudder, we were required to replace the panoramic overhead indicator. We then successfully carried out a test on the panorama indicator to conclude another swift service attendance.

New Addition to the Service Team

To cope with the service demand, we have added another member of staff to our service team. Therefore, we would like to issue a warm welcome to Cristina to the SMS team. Recently, we caught up with her to get an insight into her background and interests.

Seals and Thruster Overhaul

We had numerous of our engineers on hand to tackle this service attendance in Leith. The decision was made to pull both tail shafts as the team carried out a seal change on the thrusters and blades. The starboard seal box was stripped, cleaned and rebuild with new seals in the workshop.

This job was carried out on behalf of our customer Fletcher’s as we continue to provide ongoing support for current and future dockings.

Recruitment Drive

We are currently looking to recruit a Project and Service Engineer based at our facility in Inverkeithing.

The right candidate will work on various projects ranging from Royal Navy Warships and support vessels to large scale rig work and ship overhauls, specifically underwater repair. This is an exciting role that demands a high degree of engineering expertise, and we would encourage candidates who have experience in the marine environment.
